Heike Wollenweber was born near Munich Germany where she attended primary as well as high school. Heike continued her education with a degree from business school, a college degree obtained in London, UK and a BA in Caribbean Studies and English from London metropolitan University and University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. Heike currently resides in Kingston, Jamaica.
After graduation Heike started her graduate research in the Cultural Studies/ Reggae Studies Department at the University of the West Indies and she is currently taking a break to soon continue on her research project.
Heike started interviewing Jamaican artistes for university research on Dancehall and in 2003 started to also publich interview with artists such as jah Cure who was at this point still incarcerated in Spanish Town . Also in 2003 Heike started to cover events, dances and stage shows such as Reggae Sumfest, Sunsplash, Elephant man Birthday bash, Passa passa, Bembe, Dutty Fridaze, various album launches, Rebel Salute and Caribbean fashion Week to name a few. As a journalist her work has been published in various publications and websites such as Buzzz Magazine (Jamaica), Riddim magazine (germany), Rapfanatic Magazine (USA), Rastasnob magazine (Italy), She Caribbean Magazine (St Lucia) and Reggae Magazine (France) to name just a few.
In 2004 Heike started AXE-s magazine, a publication about music, the music industry and events and she published three issues featuring artistes such as Damian “Jr gong” marley, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Tony matterhorn, Wayne marshall and Stephen McGregor.
In 2006 Heike started AXE-s Media providing publicity services to the industry covering media in 20 countries. Heike remains to work as a publicist for various artists, producers and dancers. Over the years she has done work for Tifa, Stone Love, Izes records, Oneness Records, Juss Ice, Nerval Roberts, Ricardo Clarke, RDX, Gana Gana, Rolexx, Razz & Biggy, Una Morgan and Sheba just to name a few.
Heike still also works as a journalist especially also as a liaison for Europena media who need coverage about Jamaica and especially dancehall and reggae music. With a background in Caribbean studies and extensive research on dancehall music and Jamaican society Heike brngs a lot to the table when it comes to the understanding of dancehall especially since she balances the academic approach to the knowledge of what is happening in the streets.
In 2008 Heike decided to take a break from Jamaica after some threats d=ue to her work and she relocated to Nassau, Bahamas while visiting Jamaica regularly. Heike started to work with Bahamian artistes representing them under AXE-s Media alongside the Jamaican acts and with a string of radio interviews and TV as well as newspaper features made a name as an industry insider assisting in putting also Bahamian music on the international map. In 2009 Heike wrote a weekly event column in the Tribune newspaper in Nassau, was involved as a host in BE TV (Bahamian Entertainment Television) and did upodates about the reggae scene to Hype TV in Jamaica.
Marxh 2009 marked the birth of yet another axe-s media chapter – All axe-s. All axe-s is a radio show introducing the latest and best in reggae and dancehall music and with a feature artiste of the week and an in depth interview plus reggae news it gives the listeners a different access to the music. All axe-s started on more 94 fm in Nassau, Bahamas and has emerged as a premier reggae programme. Artistes featured on all axe-s so far were for example Serani, Queen Ifrica, Beenie Man, Charly Black, Busy Signal, Tarrus Riley and Chino.
In January 2010 Heike relocated back to Kingston, Jamaica to be once again in the center of the reggae world and the music industry of Jamaica. She continues to work with various artistes as a publicist arranging international media features, press releases, air play and video play working with thousands of local and international journalists, djs and media houses and herself being featured regularly on TV, the newspapers, websites, magazines and music videos promoting axe-s media as a brand.
In February 2010 all axe-s started to also run on RTC 107 fm, the Turks & Caicos version of the radio show, hosted by Heike.
Keeping busy as an industry insider, journalist, radio personality, tv host Heike plans all axe-s tv to be launched in 2010 as well as some other ideas in the pipeline to be brought to life. Heike is definitely always on the go promoting dancehall and reggae to the world
