Minister for Innovation, Technology and Energy, Hon. E. Jay Saunders, represented the Turks and Caicos Islands at a landmark Regional Artificial Intelligence (AI) Workshop held at the Anguilla House of Assembly from June 21–24, joining regional leaders in shaping the future of AI governance and digital innovation across the Caribbean.
Minister Saunders’ participation reaffirmed the Turks and Caicos Islands’ commitment to embracing technological innovation while strengthening regional partnerships to ensure the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.
The four-day workshop brought together parliamentarians, digital governance specialists, and technology experts from across the region.
The event was supported by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK), UNESCO, ParlAmericas, the Government and National Assembly of Anguilla, regional delegations, and private-sector innovators, including Evoluut.ai.
Discussions focused on AI readiness, ethical governance, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and the policies needed to guide the technology’s rapid growth.
Hon. Saunders was a featured presenter during the opening session, “Application of AI in Parliament,” where he highlighted the transformative potential of AI to improve parliamentary operations, increase public engagement, enhance constituency case management, and make legislative processes more efficient and accessible.
He stressed that as governments embrace emerging technologies, it is essential to build resilient, future-ready institutions that promote innovation while maintaining transparency, public confidence, and strong oversight.
Hosting the workshop in Anguilla—home to the globally recognised .ai internet domain—provided an appropriate setting for conversations on the expanding influence of artificial intelligence and its impact on legislation, cybersecurity, data governance, misinformation, and public accountability.
Participants also explored practical applications of AI through expert presentations, peer-learning sessions, and case studies, including demonstrations of Evoluut.ai’s work in supporting parliamentary functions such as automated transcription and digital engagement.
The workshop concluded with renewed regional collaboration and a shared commitment to developing national frameworks that encourage innovation while ensuring AI is deployed responsibly and ethically.
Hon. Saunders participation reflects the Turks and Caicos Islands’ continued dedication to leveraging emerging technologies to improve governance, strengthen public institutions, and position the country at the forefront of digital transformation in the Caribbean.
