
Barbara was given the second name Aretha because of her mother’s love for singing the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. Born in Free Port, Grand Bahamas she migrated to the Turks & Caicos Islands from a very young age and began singing in church and fell in love with entertaining audiences at school functions and concerts around the islands. She became a member of the first Turks & Caicos Cultural Group directed by Joseph Robinson her mentor and traveled to Canada, New York and Atlanta Georgia promoting the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Crowned Miss Turks & Caicos in 1991, she represented the Turks & Caicos at the Miss Universe Pageant in 1992 capturing the Miss Congeniality Award and continues to be an Ambassador for these islands national as well as internationally. Since 1997 to present she entertains guest as a cabaret Performer at one of the islands most popular resorts, Beaches. In 2004 Barbara shared the stage with Artist such as Shaka Khan, Boys II Man and Maxi Priest at the first Turks & Caicos Music & Poetry Festival. In 2006 Barbara formed the newest cultural group Turks & Caicos Folklore Explorers (TCFE) performing throughout the islands keeping culture alive in the TCI. She is known to many as the Songbird of TCI and looks forward to the release of her first album “Time for me” in July. Barbara is the proud mother of two sons, Donovian and James who resides with her. Barbara just released her new song “Forward we march” on Radio Turks & Caicos on the Entertainment Report with the Connoisseur on Sept 28th, 2009. Barbara was also saluted by the Bahamian stars in Providenciales on September 25th, 2009 in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
