POLICE are stepping up patrols following a spate of burglaries in the Blue Hills area.

Officers will be increasing their presence in the area in a bid to stamp-out property break-ins.
A number of homes have recently being targeted, with three houses burgled in Belglade Gardens over the past week.
Most of the incidents have occurred during daylight hours when the occupants are at work.

A RTCI Police spokesman explained: “We have unfortunately seen an increase in incidents in the Blue Hills area.
“The Police Service is working hard to crack down on crime throughout the islands and we will be stepping up patrols in the Blue Hills district over the coming weeks.

“This will involve many different initiatives including extra officers on the beat as well as getting out and speaking to home owners and persons in the area to gather their observations and their suspicions on responsible parties.”Blue Hills, and Belglade Gardens in particular, are served with active neighbourhood watch schemes and we will be liaising with representatives in an effort to combat this problem.”

Police have today issued advice to all houseowners in the TCI about how to keep their homes secure.
“When leaving your homes there are certain basic things people should do”, added the spokesman. “These include making sure all windows and doors are securely fastened and that any valuable items are locked away and not on view through the window.
“Take an extra few moments to double check everything before you leave and always be aware of any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area. If you do see something that concerns you make a note of times, descriptions and vehicle registration numbers.
“It is also advisable to mark all valuable items with security markers and make a note of serial numbers so that if you are unfortunate enough to be burgled there is a greater chance of getting your property back.”
