It is a pleasure to be here this evening to celebrate with the Stuart and entire Beaches family, the opening of your new Key West Village.
Beaches has over the past two decades made a reputation for itself across the United States, Canada, Europe and elsewhere as being the premier resort of choice in the Caribbean.
This is evidenced by the fact that this opening has garnered the attention and support of so many great Caribbean leaders including the Prime Minister and Ministers of Jamaica, Antigua and St. Lucia that are here with us tonight.
We welcome you to our Beautiful by Nature shores and trust that you will have an enjoyable stay.
The Sandals/Beaches brand has certainly made an impact in the TCI as we have watched this resort grow from one to now 4 premier villages, each year helping to not only increase tourist arrivals to the TCI,but also in raising awareness through phenomenal marketing of this destination.
I have to be careful what I say tonight because I know Adam will certainly try to use any and all positive statements made in future negotiations, but we must pay recognition to the impact that this resort has had on the tourism industry and the economy in the TCI.
The Turks and Caicos at this time continues to find itself in a remarkable position, whereby amidst many fiscal challenges and economic uncertainly in other territories and in the world in general, there is still great interest and economic activity here in the TCI.
There are signs of significant economic turnaround in the Turks and Caicos where crime is relatively low and finances are stable, not to mention we possess the “Best Beaches” and the #1 Family Resort!
Looking back over the redevelopment of this resort, I am sure that many would say it was not an easy task. I’m sure that Adam and Mr. Stuart can recall that we had many friendly disagreements and firm negotiations over the last 2 1/2 years, but having the opportunity to be here tonight and to take part in this event, certainly makes it all worth it.
As you seek to officially open your new Key West Village, there are a few things that I would like to leave with you.
First and foremost I must state that the Turks and Caicos is an excellent place to do business. I must state that we have and will continue to experience positive growth going forward; I must state we value the Beaches brand and the positive impact that you have had in the TCI.
As you continue to strive towards excellence and towards bringing awareness to the Turks and Caicos Islands, as one of largest employers in the TCI I ask that you continue to provide opportunities for training and personal development to Turks and Caicos Islanders and that you work towards being the number 1 private sector employment of choice in the TCI.
Tonight on behalf of the Governors Office I congratulate you, we celebrate your success and we look forward to future areas of cooperation. We also look forward to your future expansion plans, which we have not forgotten and will be holding you to.
Congratulations Beaches TCI and I wish you must success in your new Key West Village.
