GB athletes to get more government funds in run-up to Paris Games
The government will increase its funding of Great Britain's Olympians and Paralympians by £23.4m annually to £77.4m a year to aid preparation for the Paris Games in 2024.
The money will be provided in addition to National Lottery funds, and athletes hoping to compete at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will also benefit.
Great Britain finished fourth in the table after winning 65 medals at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Paralympics begin on 24 August.
A statement from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said funds would also be used to "help kick-start the search for the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic champions".
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "Team GB showed us the very best of this country in Tokyo - demonstrating sportsmanship, hard work and record-breaking performances.
"From the pool to the track to the velodrome, our Olympians gave us so many reasons to be proud, and to celebrate their extraordinary success.
"This increased funding will support Team GB to deliver their best possible performances in three years' time in Paris."

Crypto hacker offered reward after $600m heist
A hacker who stole just over $600m (£433m) worth of cryptocurrency was offered $500,000 and immunity as a reward for returning the money.
Poly Network made the controversial offer after the hacker pledged to send back the money.
The attack was uncovered on Tuesday when Poly Network publicly pleaded with the hacker to help.
One former FBI official said "private companies have no authority to promise immunity from criminal prosecution".
The attack is one of the largest hacking heists in history. Poly Network said the person had exploited a vulnerability in its system.
Most of the money has now been given back, although the hacker says they are not interested in the reward.
Shortly after the hack the anonymous individual posted notes to the publicly available blockchain taunting the company and asking for advice on how to launder his stolen riches.
Later, the criminal claimed "not to be interested in money" and promised to return it all.
By Thursday evening, Poly Network said most of the remaining assets in the hacker's possession had been transferred to a digital wallet controlled by both the hacker and the company.
Poly Network says it is still waiting for the repayment process to be fully completed but that it is working with the hacker.
A portion of the stolen coins were frozen shortly after the attack have not yet been transferred but can't be used by the hacker anyway.
"The hacker still holds $33.4m of stolen Tether [tokens] - because it has been frozen by Tether themselves," Tom Robinson, co-founder of Elliptic, a London-based blockchain analytics and compliance firm, told the BBC.
He added that it could be seen on the blockchain that "a few thousand dollars' worth of various other tokens" were being held onto by the hacker.
It was not clear, however, if these were part of the stolen assets, or donations that the hacker requested people to send them on Thursday as a thank you for returning the money.
Other money outstanding also includes a 13.37 Ether tip ($40,000), which the hacker sent to a user who warned them that the Tether tokens had been frozen by its developer.
In a three page Q&A posted online the anonymous hacker claimed he or she carried out the heist for fun and to encourage cryptocurrency exchange firm Poly Networks to improve its security.

Matt Damon responds to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's reunion
While Bennifer fans are elated by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's reunion, Matt Damon may be the biggest supporter of them all.
During an appearance on The Carlos Watson Show, the host asked if he thought the couple was going to last. "No one's pulling harder than I am. They're both great," Matt responded. "I just want for their happiness, and they seem pretty happy right now."
Ben and Jennifer met on the set of Gigli in 2001 and he later appeared in the video for her signature hit, "Jenny from the Block." The couple was engaged for two years before breaking it off in 2004. The two rekindled their romance earlier this year after Jennifer and her former fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, ended their engagement.
Matt and Ben have been friends since they met in high school. The two famously co-wrote and starred in Good Will Hunting, which was named Best Original Screenplay at the 1998 Academy Awards.

Canada's PM calls snap summer campaign
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called a snap summer general election as Canada enters into its pandemic fourth wave.
The general election comes as polls indicate his minority Liberal government looks within reach of forming a majority.
The 49-year-old Liberal leader says "Canadians need to choose how we finish the fight against Covid-19".
Canadians will vote on 20 September, some two years ahead of schedule.
On Sunday, Mr Trudeau visited Canada's Governor General Mary Simon - the representative of the Queen, Canada's head of state - and asked her to dissolve Parliament.
The leader of the centrist Liberals said a general election was necessary so voters have a voice on the path forward at a "pivotal moment".
In October 2019, voters handed him a minority, meaning he has had to rely on opposition parties to help him pass his agenda.
Opposition parties criticised the Liberals for calling a five-week long campaign during the pandemic's latest wave simply for "political gain".

Haiti searches for survivors after massive quake kills at least 1200
Rescue workers scrambled to find survivors after a powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti early yesterday, killing at least 304 and toppling buildings in the disaster-plagued Caribbean nation still recovering from a devastating 2010 quake.
The epicentre of the shaking, which rattled homes and sent terrified locals scrambling for safety, was about 100 miles (160 kilometres) by road west of the centre of the densely populated capital Port-au-Prince.
“Lots of homes are destroyed, people are dead and some are at the hospital,” 21-year-old Christella Saint Hilaire, who lives near the epicentre, told AFP.
“I was in my house when it started to shake, I was near a window and I saw everything falling,” she said. “A piece of a wall hit my back, but I am not too hurt.”
The long, initial quake was felt in much of the Caribbean. It damaged schools as well as homes on Haiti's south-western peninsula, according to images posted by witnesses.
Hours after the quake the country's civil protection agency said that the death toll had jumped to 1200, ticking upwards throughout the day from an initial report of 29 fatalities.
The agency said that hundreds had been “wounded and missing” and specified that 160 were killed in the country's South department alone, in the area of the quake's epicentre.
Initial responses, by both professional rescuers and members of the public have led to many people being pulled from the rubble. Hospitals continue to receive injured,” it added.
With thousands injured, hospitals in the regions hardest hit by the quake were already struggling to provide emergency care, and at least three in the municipalities of Pestel, Corailles and Roseaux were completely full, according to Jerry Chandler, head of the civil protection agency.
Haiti has declared a state of emergency in response to the disaster, and a White House official said US President Joe Biden has approved “immediate” aid efforts to begin.
“In what is already a challenging time for the people of Haiti, I am saddened by the devastating earthquake,” Biden said, adding that his country was ready to “assess the damage and assist efforts to recover those who were injured and those who must now rebuild”.
Residents shared images on social media of frantic efforts to pull people from the ruins of caved-in buildings, while screaming bystanders sought safety in the streets outside their homes.
“Houses and their surrounding walls have collapsed. The roof of the cathedral has fallen down,” resident Job Joseph told AFP from the hard-hit city of Jeremie on Haiti's far western end.
Heavy damage was reported in the centre of the city, which is composed primarily of single-storey residences and buildings.
The damage in the city of Les Cayes appeared to be significant, including the collapse of a multi-storey hotel.
Haiti's Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who surveyed the damage via helicopter, declared a state of emergency for one month while calling on the nation to “show solidarity” and not panic.
Shortly after the quake, the US Geological Survey issued a tsunami alert, saying waves of up to three metres (nearly 10 feet) were possible along the coastline of Haiti, but lifted the warning soon after.
Jeremie resident Tamas Jean Pierre said the possibility of a tsunami nonetheless sent parents “fleeing the city with their children in [their] arms”.
“People are terrified,” he said.
A 7.0-magnitude quake in January 2010 transformed much of Port-au-Prince and nearby cities into dusty ruins, killing more than 200,000 and injuring some 300,000 others.
More than a million and a half Haitians were made homeless, leaving authorities and the international humanitarian community with a colossal challenge in a country lacking either a land registry or building codes.
The quake destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, as well as administrative buildings and schools, not to mention 60 per cent of Haiti's health care system.
The rebuilding of the country's main hospital remains incomplete, and non-governmental organisations have struggled to make up for the State's many deficiencies.
The latest quake comes just over a month after President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in his home by a team of gunmen, shaking a country already battling poverty, spiralling gang violence and COVID-19.
Tropical Storm Fred makes landfall in Dominican Republic
Tropical Storm Fred made landfall in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, with forecasters warning that heavy rains could cause dangerous flooding and mudslides there and in the neighbouring country of Haiti.
After a quiet month of no named storms in the region, Fred became the sixth of the Atlantic hurricane season late Tuesday as it moved past the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on a forecast track that would carry it toward Florida over the weekend.
Government crews with megaphones walked through impoverished neighbourhoods in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo ahead of the storm urging those in low-lying areas to evacuate.
Tropical storm warnings were discontinued in the US territories after pelting the islands with rain, leaving some 13,000 customers without power in Puerto Rico.
Fred was centred 30 miles (50 kilometres) west of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Wednesday morning and moving west-northwest at 16 mph (26 kph), the US National Hurricane Center said. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph).
The Dominican Republic, Haiti and central and eastern Cuba could get hit Wednesday, and people in Florida were urged to monitor updates. Forecasters said the centre of Fred was expected to move near the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas on Thursday, and move north of the northern coast of central Cuba on Friday.
Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi closed government agencies on Tuesday at noon and officials noted that some gas stations had shut down after running out of fuel. The heaviest rain was expected to fall during the night, forecasters said.

Rihanna celebrates Fenty perfume selling out
After recently reaching billionaire status, Rihanna has even more to celebrate. Her new perfume, named Fenty Eau De Parfum, has sold out, less than 24 hours after its launch on Tuesday.
To celebrate the impressive achievement, the "Diamonds" singer took to Instagram to share three photos of herself in bed wearing sunglasses and rocking an oversize black hoodie while eating what appears to be caviar.
Rih captioned the post, "how I woke up after #FENTYPARFUM sold out this morning!!!"
The Fenty founder first teased that she would be dropping a fragrance almost two weeks ago, sharing a few black-and-white photos of herself, with the simple caption "#FENTYPARFUM COMING SOON."
A day prior to the perfume release, Rihanna posted a compilation of interview clips from various celebrities, including Lil Nas X, Cardi B, Jennifer Lawrence and Jim Parsons, all of whom had expressed that the singer smelled good -- or in Nas X's words, "like heaven."
Fenty Eau De Parfum comes in a simple, yet elegant amber bottle and retails for $120. A restock date has not yet been announced.

Hackers steal $600m in major cryptocurrency heist
Hackers have stolen some $600m (£433m) in what appears to be one the largest cryptocurrency heists ever.
Blockchain site Poly Network said hackers had exploited a vulnerability in its system and taken thousands of digital tokens such as Ether.
In a letter posted on Twitter, it urged the thieves to "establish communication and return the hacked assets".
Hours after the hack, the attacker started returning the funds - first in small amounts and then in millions.
They started sending back small transfers totalling a few dollars to the online wallets controlled by Poly - but then began making much larger deposits, totalling hundreds of millions.
In scale, the hack is on par with huge recent breaches at exchanges such as Coincheck and Mt Gox.
In its letter Poly Network said: "The amount of money you have hacked is one of the biggest in defi [decentralised finance] history.
"Law enforcement in any country will regard this as a major economic crime and you will be pursued.
"The money you stole are [sic] from tens of thousands of crypto community members, hence the people."
Poly Network said a preliminary investigation found a hacker exploited a "vulnerability between contract calls".
It urged various exchanges to block deposits of the coins, after millions of dollars in tokens were transferred to separate cryptocurrency wallets.
About $267m of Ether currency has been taken, $252m of Binance coins and roughly $85 million in USDC tokens.
Changpeng Zhao, chief executive of Binance, said his firm was aware of the hack, but added there was only so much he could do.
He said the group was "co-ordinating with all our security partners to proactively help".
"There are no guarantees," he added.
Poly Network is a decentralised finance - or Defi - provider, which allows users to transfer tokens tied to one blockchain to a different network.
Cryptocurrency systems such as Ether and Binance were developed independently, so have struggled to work in conjunction with each other.
Losses from fraud in the Defi sector hit an all-time high of $474m in the first seven months of the year, a report from research company CipherTrace said on Tuesday.
But losses from crime in the overall cryptocurrency market dropped sharply to $681m, compared to $1.9bn for the whole of 2020 and $4.5bn in 2019.
Last week, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Defi lender Blockchain Credit Partners and two of its top executives for raising $30m through allegedly fraudulent offerings.

White House urges action on oil as gasoline prices rise
The world's top oil producers must do more to help quell rising fuel prices or it could threaten the global recovery, the White House has said.
It said the price of oil was now higher than before the pandemic, leading to a spike in prices at the pump.
Last month, members of the Opec cartel and allies agreed to boost supply to help stabilise the situation, adding 400,000 barrels a day to their output.
But the White House said it was "simply not enough".
"While Opec+ recently agreed to production increases, these increases will not fully offset previous production cuts that Opec+ imposed during the pandemic until well into 2022," said Joe Biden's national security advisor, Joe Sullivan, in a statement.
"President Biden has made it clear he wants Americans to have access to affordable and reliable energy, including at the pump.
"Although we are not a party to Opec, the United States will always speak to international partners regarding issues of significance that affect out national economic and security affairs, in public and in private."
Oil prices fell sharply last year as the pandemic brought major economies around the world to a standstill.
But they have rebounded strongly as countries have reopened, with benchmark Brent crude trading at just under $70 a barrel on Wednesday - up nearly a third since the start of the year.
It's pushed up inflation, which was running at 5.4% in the 12 months to July, as energy prices surge.
In July, retail gasoline prices in the US were up 2.4% compared with June and some 41.8% compared with July 2020, according to the Labor Department.
Mr Sullivan's intervention comes three weeks after Opec countries such as Saudi Arabia, along with allies like Russia, agreed to boost output by 400,000 barrels per day each month from August.
The deal - designed to support both the global economy and the oil market - means the group's output will be restored to its pre-pandemic level by the end of 2022.
But it was hard won compromise after the UAE rejected calls to make cuts, threatening to scupper the deal.
On Wednesday, the White House also said it had asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which polices anti-competitive behaviour in the US, to investigate whether illegal practices were contributing to higher US gasoline prices.
"During this summer's driving season, there have been divergences between oil prices and the cost of gasoline at the pump," Biden's top economic aide, Brian Deese, wrote in a letter to FTC chair Lina Khan.
He encouraged the FTC to "consider using all of its available tools to monitor the US gasoline market and address any illegal conduct".
