Trump slams Democrats for helping to fund dossier
President Donald Trump lashed out at Democrats on Wednesday after a lawyers for Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee acknowledged helping fund the infamous dossier of alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“I think it's a disgrace,” Trump said. “It's a very sad commentary on politics in this country.”
On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that Marc E. Elias, a lawyer who represented both the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained the Washington-based investigative firm Fusion GPS to conduct research.
In August, ABC News reported that Fusion GPS was paid during the heated Republican primaries by a still unknown Republican and then later worked for Democrats, all of whom wanted to dig up dirt on Trump and plant negative news stories, according to political operatives.
The identity of the initial Republican funder of the dossier, however, remains a mystery.
Republican House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes approved a subpoena earlier this month that would force the bank handling finances for Fusion GPS to open up its books, which could force the identity of that initial client into public view.
The 35-page dossier, prepared by a former British spy and Moscow station chief named Christopher Steele, alleges the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians, and includes uncorroborated, salacious allegations about Trump himself, which he has repeatedly denied.
Between June 2015 to December 2016, the Clinton campaign paid Perkins Coie $5.6 million in legal fees, according to campaign finance records examined by the Washington Post. And since since November 2015, the DNC paid the firm $3.6 million in “legal and compliance consulting.” It is not possible to know how much of those funds were passed on to Fusion GPS.
As Trump fumed, Democrats defended the campaign and the committee. Former Clinton campaign spokesperson Brian Fallon said the Democrats did nothing wrong.
“I think it's important to remember that opposition research happens all the time in the campaign,” Fallon said on CNN.
Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said the content of the document is more important than the circumstances behind its creation.
“It’s important to know who paid for it,” Swalwell told ABC News. “But it is also important to know if what’s in the dossier is true.”

Las Vegas shooter's laptop missing its hard drive
A laptop computer recovered from the Las Vegas hotel room where Stephen Paddock launched the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history was missing its hard drive, depriving investigators of a potential key source of information on why he killed and maimed so many people, ABC News has learned.
Paddock is believed to have removed the hard drive before fatally shooting himself, and the missing device has not yet been recovered, sources told ABC News.
Investigators digging into Paddock’s background also learned he purchased software designed to erase files from a hard drive, but without the hard drive to examine it is impossible to know if he ever used the software, one source said.
The absence of substantial digital clues has left investigators struggling to piece together what triggered Paddock to kill 58 innocent concertgoers and injure more than 500 others on October 1.
Authorities are examining every aspect of Paddock’s life — from his family, friends and associates to his travel patterns, health and finances. So far, a motive has been elusive to investigators.
The frequent gambler, described as a loner, spent months amassing his arsenal, staying under the radar with no one suspecting he would turn to extreme violence.
His finances did not appear to be a problem and Paddock had settled any debts he had with casinos shortly before the attack, a source said
Meanwhile, Bruce Paddock, a brother of Stephen Paddock, was arrested in California Wednesday morning on suspicion of possessing child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child.
A felony complaint alleges that between January 2014 and August 2014, Bruce Paddock possessed over 600 images of child or youth pornography.
When the investigation started Bruce Paddock was a transient and couldn't be located, the police said, but he was recently found in North Hollywood, where he was arrested.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed one count of possession of over 600 images of child pornography and 19 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, police said.
Bruce Paddock is being held at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Metropolitan Detention Center; his bail was set at $60,000, the police said.
It’s unclear whether Bruce Paddock has obtained a lawyer.

Judge rules Mary J. Blige must continue paying estranged husband
Mary J. Blige reportedly must continue temporary spousal support payments to Kendu Issacs, but her estranged husband won't receive as much as he's asked for.
While a judge ordered the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul to keep paying $30,000 a month to Issacs, his request to increase the payments to $65,000 a month was dismissed, according to The Blast.com
As previously reported, Issacs asked for the increase because he is now unemployed, while Blige is profiting from new music she’s released about their breakup, which Isaacs calls “divorce songs” -- “Love Yourself” and “Set Me Free" -- from her Strength of a Woman album.
Isaacs claimed Blige can afford to pay him $65,000 a month because she supposedly has $275,000 per month available for support payments. Blige’s legal team argued that amount is based on her royalties, and says Isaac isn't entitled to it, according to The Blast.
The divorce proceedings are ongoing, and the judge says the financial issues will be discussed further during the trial.
Blige and Isaacs married in 2003, and she filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences.” At that time, Isaacs requested $100,000 per month in support.

Suge Knight drops Chris Brown lawsuit following legal threat
Suge Knight has reportedly dropped his lawsuit against Chris Brown, stemming from a 2014 shooting in Los Angeles.
Knight was shot seven times in the incident at the 1OAK nightclub, where Breezy was performing at a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party. Suge sued Brown, charging the singer was responsible for poor security at the venue that allowed gunmen to fire multiple shots.
The Death Row Records founder is stopping his action after being threatened with a counter lawsuit for malicious prosecution by Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, according to TMZ.
Sources say no money was exchanged.
Knight remains in jail awaiting trial on murder and attempted murder charges in connection with a hit-and-run incident in 2015 that killed Terry Carter and injured another man.

U.S. sales projected to slip in October, despite strong post-hurricane demand
October is on track to be the second-best month of 2017 for U.S. new-vehicle sales, analysts said, partly due to surging demand in states recovering from hurricane damage, though volume is projected to fall slightly from the same month last year.
Forecasts from LMC Automotive, Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds call for a 2 to 4 percent decline in industry sales this month. They estimate the seasonally adjusted, annualized selling rate will be 17.6 million to 17.9 million. While that's a drop-off from September's rate of 18.6 million -- which was the sixth-highest ever -- it would be well above the industry's sales pace in the first half of the year.
"October looks relatively strong for the industry, as evidenced by the nearly 18 million SAAR," KBB analyst Tim Fleming said in a statement. "Sales blew past expectations in September ... and we expect October to keep up some of that momentum. Some of the strength can be attributed to replacement demand that continues in Texas and Florida, but perhaps more importantly, higher incentive spend is playing a role."
Fleming said incentives have risen to 11 percent of average transaction prices -- "an indicator that new-vehicle demand is still contracting, and production cuts could be on the horizon to prevent oversupplies."
Discounts are all but certain to rise further in the coming months, as automakers roll out year-end promotions that typically start in the next few weeks and stretch into early January. J.D. Power, which provides data used in LMC's forecast, projects that incentive spending could rise to an all-time high in November and December.
Incentives averaged $3,901 per vehicle in the first 17 days of October, J.D. Power said, topping the month's previous record, set last year, by $66. At the same time, the industry's average transaction price also set an October record, rising $615 from a year ago to $32,185 and suggesting that the discounts are not eroding profits.
Sweeter deals could help draw consumers who had delayed making a purchase because of the hurricanes back into the market, in addition to others who have been on the fence about buying, said Jessica Caldwell, Edmunds' executive director of industry analysis.
"We expect to see increasingly aggressive incentives offered on outgoing models through the end of the year as automakers look to build on this momentum," Caldwell said in a statement, "so car buyers can likely anticipate some door-buster deals this holiday season."
Automakers are scheduled to report October sales on Wednesday. October has 25 selling days this year, one fewer than it did in 2016. The expected decline for the month also can be attributed in part to consumers having five weekends to shop for vehicles last October but only four in 2017.

CDB approves funding to support geothermal development in St. Kitts and Nevis
The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved the use of USD325,500 by CDB for the benefit of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to identify environmental and social impacts in the design of a geothermal energy (GE) exploratory test-drilling project. The resources, made available through the Canadian Support to the Energy Sector in the Caribbean (CSES-C) Fund, will also assist with the development of a framework to manage project implementation sustainably.
The environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) will support decision-makers in determining how to proceed with project development. The findings will inform:
selection of the best location for exploratory test wells;
project considerations to reduce negative impacts on environmental resources; and
approaches for taking into account social dimensions such as poverty, gender, employment and livelihoods.
Tessa Williams-Robertson, Head, Renewable Energy/ Energy Efficiency Unit, CDB noted, “St. Kitts and Nevis, like the majority of CDB Borrowing Member Countries is seeking to reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuel, and improve national energy security and competitiveness by increasing the deployment of sustainable energy options. Of the renewable energy options, it is believed that GE holds the greatest prospect for transforming St. Kitts and Nevis’ energy matrix, directly displacing diesel fuel-based generation.”
“The findings of the ESIA will provide the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis with critical, evidence-based environmental and social baseline data and impact analysis, to inform decisions required for the exploratory test-drilling phase of GE development,” Williams-Robertson added.
The intervention is consistent with the Bank’s strategic objective of supporting inclusive growth and sustainable development within its Borrowing Member Countries. It also aligns with CDB’s corporate priorities of strengthening and modernising economic and social infrastructure and promoting environmental sustainability.
It is also consistent with the Bank’s Energy Sector Policy and Strategy, and Climate Resilience Strategy, as well as St. Kitts and Nevis National Energy Policy (2015) and the Caribbean Community Energy Policy (2013).
The CSES-C Fund was established in 2016 to provide technical assistance over a four-year period. Grant resources of CAD5 million, provided by the Government of Canada to CDB, supports public and private actors in the energy sector in the Bank’s Borrowing Member Countries.

Rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino, dead at 89
Fats Domino, whose piano-driven R&B hits more than 60 years ago helped define rock and roll, has died in New Orleans. He was 89.
Domino died Wednesday morning, surrounded by family and friends, according to his daughter.
Born Antoine Domino, Jr. in New Orleans, he was nicknamed "Fats" early on in part due to his portly stature. He began playing professionally while still in his teens, and recorded his first record, "The Fat Man," in 1949. Four years later, it had sold a million copies, believed to be the first early rock and roll record to achieve that milestone.
But Domino is best known for his string of classic hits that began in 1955 with "Ain't That a Shame," which combined blues, R&B and classic boogie woogie into Domino's signature style. "Ain't That a Shame" reached the pop chart top-ten, though a more mainstream cover by white singer Pat Boone reached #1.
Domino's most enduring hit came in 1956 with a cover of the 1940s pop song "Blueberry Hill" -- it sold over five million copies worldwide. Hits like 1957's "I'm Walkin'," "I Want to Walk You Home" in 1959, and 1960's "Walking to New Orleans" followed.
In all, Domino recorded dozens of albums and released dozens more singles. His signature sound influences countless other artists, including Elvis Presley and The Beatles.
Domino largely retired from traveling in the 1980s, remaining in New Orleans and declining to leave even when he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987, and received the National Medal of the Arts from President Bill Clinton in 1998.
Domino lost nearly all of his possessions when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in August 2005, including his gold records, though the RIAA replaced them.

The 2017 edition of the Tokyo Motor Show begins tomorrow and will be home to the best automobiles from across the globe. However, the Tokyo Motor Show is also the mainstay for local Japanese automakers to showcase all-new production cars for the local and global markets, to superior concepts that preview what the future of motoring will look like. The press days for the Tokyo Motor Show starts tomorrow, which is when manufacturers will be break cover on all the major concepts and launches. While we've already seen a few concepts in images and the teaser to the others, we eagerly await to have a look at them in flesh. As the 45th Tokyo Motor Show starts tomorrow, here's what to expect from manufacturers at the annual event.
(Honda Sports EV Concept teaser)
Honda teased the Sports EV Concept and the model will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show this week. Honda's teaser sketch gave a glimpse of the model, including a sporty coupe-like roofline and squared taillights. The two-door concept is expected to get an all-electric powertrain that will be paired to the automaker's Artificial Intelligence technology. In addition, the Japanese auto giant will also showcase a host of new and upgraded models in the production ready version. The fifth generation Honda CR-V will now feature two motor hybrid technology, while the Urban EV Concept that won a lot of love at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year will also be in attendance. The Honda NeuV mini electric concept car from CES Expo this year, will also be in attendance. Also making an appearance will be Honda's self-balancing motorcycle concept at Tokyo.

Toyota has quite an illustrious line-up planned for the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Headlining the Toyota pavilion though will be the GR HV Sports Concept that takes inspiration from the TS050 Hybrid racing car from Toyota Gazoo, which races in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and in a way previews the successor the very popular Toyota GT-86. The concept, despite oddball retro looks has us curious with a hybrid motor and a Targa roof. Also previewed is the Toyota TJ Cruiser van/SUV crossover concept that gets squared proportions, albeit with knobby tyres and a bold front grille.
In addition, Toyota will be revealing the new Crown Concept Saloon that has been developed at the Nurburgring circuit. There will also be the new generation Toyota Century limousine that competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8, but keeps the retro Japanese looks intact on the outside. The cabin, on the other hand, is full of all the creature comforts you would expect.

In contrast, Toyota will also showcase the very little Concept i-Ride in Tokyo that has been described as a vehicle designed for the urban environment, specifically for the shrinking cities. The two seater runs on electric power and has a range of 100-150 km on a single charge. Lastly, also watch out for hydrogen fuel powered Fine-Comfort concept that previews the company's fuel cell technology, while the JPN Taxi will make its public debut at the show even though sales for the model have already begun in Japan.

The Lexus brand made its entry in India earlier this year and we certainly have our hopes up from Toyota's luxury arm. The automaker will exhibit the new LS luxury saloon in Tokyo, ahead of its production debut in 2018. The interesting model that is speculated to be showcased is the seven-seater version of the RX SUV. The SUV is currently available as the RX 350 and RX 450h, the latter is sold in India. If true, the new longer three-row versions will competing with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Range Rover models.
However, Lexus is rumoured to have an all-new concept that will break cover at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Details on this concept are under wraps, so it will be a major surprise that we look forward to.

Much like Toyota, Suzuki too will have an elaborate setup of concepts on display at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. However, the Suzuki e-Survivor concept will be headlining the event as an all-electric off-roader. The concept boasts of a rugged minimal bodywork coupled with an electric powertrain and permanent four-wheel drive. The e-Survivor will also come with a retractable roof similar to the X-90 mini SUV. In addition, there will also be the XBEE compact crossover wagon making its public debut while also expect to see the Suzuki Swift Sport making an appearance.
The new generation Suzuki Jimny will finally break cover in Tokyo this week showcasing its boxy new design and and rugged appeal. The Jimny is expected to get a host of improvements over its predecessor and will be catching a lot of attention at the show. In addition, Suzuki will also reveal the SV650X concept, which is based on the SV650 middleweight offering. The concept previews the production model that gets retro styling with modern mechanicals.

Nissan has some very interesting models set to make an appearance in Tokyo this week, with a lot of models inclined for the performance lover. The seventh generation Nissan Z car is expected to make its debut this year and will be succeeding the 370Z in the company's line-up. While the model is yet to make an appearance, it is suggested that the new Z shares its underpinnings with the Infiniti Q60, while powrer will come from a twin-turbo V6. A hybrid version with over 500 bhp is also rumoured to be in the works.
Nissan will also reveal the Nismo performance version of the new generation Leaf in Tokyo. The standard model debuted earlier in the year and will get improved performance output will retaining a range of 378 km from the base Leaf model. There are also rumours of Nissan revealing an all-new SUV at this year's Tokyo Motor Show that is said to be an all-electric offering. However, we will have to wait till the show for all the details

Mazda has two concepts that we look forward to see in flesh in Tokyo. The company will showcase the next stage of the RX-Vision concept in the form of the Design Vision Concept car, which is a four-door coupe and continues the brand's Kodo design language. The other car will be the Mazda product concept with new Sky-Activ compression ignition technology, and is said to preview the new Mazda3 hatchback.

Mitsubishi is looking to make a holistic comeback in the auto world and will be revealing the new e-Evolution concept, which is said to be an electric SUV. The company will be bringing the iconic Evolution badge with the new offering, which was synonymous with its rally and road cars. Mitsubishi will also unveil the Emirai 4 concept which showcases the brand's autonomous technology and has an augmented reality display, HUD unit, interior camera and much more. We will be looking forward to learning about these concepts at the show.

Japanese motorcycle maker will be showcasing 19 products at this year's Tokyo Motor Show with two stunning new concepts. The manufacturer will be revealing the Sports Ride concept, which is a small capacity sports car of sorts. The new concept comes as a spiritual successor to the Sports Ride concept that was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Yamaha will also be revealing a radical Motoroid concept with Artificial Intelligence at the show. The electric motorcycle has the ability to interact with the rider and recognise him/her as well.

Twitter promises more ad transparency
Twitter has pledged to make advertising more transparent as it attempts to fend off proposed new regulations.
It said it would be clearer about who funded ads and to what end, especially those pushing a political agenda.
The company, like several tech firms, is keen to show it can self-regulate after it was found that Russian-backed groups were exploiting its ad platform.
Several key senators, from both sides of the US political divide, have backed measures clamping down on online ads.
The Honest Ads Act would regulate ad sales on social networks, search engines, websites or apps that have more than 50 million US visitors each month for the majority of months in a year.
The rules would bring it closer in line with restrictions and disclosures required when placing political messages on TV or radio stations.
Twitter hopes its own measures, announced on Tuesday, will be at least partly enough to convince senators it is capable of tackling the problem itself.
Senator Mark Warner described the changes as “a good first step”, adding: “Online political ads need more transparency and disclosure.”
Twitter’s new measures include:
An Advertising Transparency Center that will allow users to view what advertising campaigns are currently active on the site
A special label for ads funded by political campaigns, including details on who the ad was targeted at
Unspecified penalties for marketing firms that push political ads without being transparent about their origin
More shared information about how long an ad campaign has been running
Twitter, Facebook and Google face a Senate hearing next week in which they will be expected to describe and explain the extent in which Kremlin-backed accounts abused the sites’ advertising platforms.
At a hearing held last month, Twitter was criticised for not doing enough research into the matter. Senator Warner, who sits on the committee investigating Russian interference in last year’s presidential election, said Twitter’s appearance was “deeply disappointing”, and consistently mainly of information already divulged by Facebook.
That information included details about more than 400 Facebook profiles that the company found were likely being run by so-called “trolling farms” in Russia.
These farms would employ people to trawl the internet to post inflammatory comments - often focusing on a particular issue, like race or immigration, rather than a specific candidate.
Analysis of the activity has suggested the efforts were targeted at US swing states, i.e. areas where the election race is tight.
Google has said it discovered a small amount of ad buy - $4,700 - linked to Russian government groups. However, that does not include advertising and accounts on YouTube, something Google is still investigating, it said.
