Five-time NBA champion auctions face mask
Former LA Lakers captain Kobe Bryant is auctioning off a face mask to raise funds for charity - with bids starting at $15,000 (£12,204).
Bryant had to wear the mask after breaking his nose during the 2012 All-Star game where he passed Michael Jordan as the All-Star Game's leading scorer.
He wore it for four Lakers games, earning the nickname 'The Masked Mamba'.
The auction house describes the mask as "a Hall of Fame worthy piece that every NBA fan would be shocked to see in person".
Bryant previously auctioned another mask he wore in the same season, securing $67,000 (£54,498) for the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.

Slovenia Draws nil all against England
England were thankful to the brilliance of goalkeeper Joe Hart and large slices of good fortune as they escaped with a draw from a torrid World Cup qualifier in Slovenia.
Hart, on loan at Torino in Serie A after becoming surplus to requirements at Manchester City, saved interim manager Gareth Southgate from an embarrassing loss to the team ranked 67th in the world with a succession of outstanding saves.
He twice denied Josip Ilicic when he was played in by poor backpasses from Eric Dier and captain Jordan Henderson - but the highlight was a world-class reflex save when he turned Jasmin Kurtic's header on to the crossbar seconds after half-time.
Kurtic also hit the post in the first half as England's three-year run of wins in qualifiers came to an end.
They deserved no more as Slovenia were the more dangerous side and even the introduction of Wayne Rooney, dropped by Southgate, for the last 18 minutes could not rouse a disappointing England, who at least still top Group F.
Rooney had a shot just wide and Jesse Lingard forced a fine save from Jan Oblak late on - but an England win would have been harsh on the hosts.

West Windies Women rally to level ODI series
Star players Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor combined well to hand West Indies Women a 38-run win over their England counterparts at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium yesterday to level the five-match One-Day International series at 1-1.
Taylor, the West Indies captain, struck a polished 56 for her 24th career ODI half-century to guide the West Indies to 148 all out in exactly 50 overs in what turned out to be another low-scoring encounter on a low and slow batting surface.
Dottin, known more for her aggressive batting, emphasised her all-round class with a four-wicket haul that helped to dismiss England Women for 110 inside 42 overs.
Scores: West Indies 148 (50 overs); England 110 (41.4 overs)
England had a five-run win in the first ODI on Saturday after restricting West Indies to 144 in reply to their 149.
Yesterday, West Indies won the toss and opted to take first strike in brilliant sunny conditions at the venue.
They lost promising teenage opener Matthews, who was trapped before wicket to England’s off-spinner Laura Marsh, for 15 at 24-1.
That brought in Taylor, who, from the first ball she faced, was imperious and appeared head and shoulders above her teammates.
Matthews’ opener partner Shaquana Quintyne also went for 15 when she was caught lofting a catch to midwicket fielder Natalie Sciver off the bowling of left-arm finger spinner Sophie Ecclestone.
Taylor and Dottin (21) turned over the strike well to add 47 runs for the third wicket which stabilised the West Indies innings. Dottin played the sweep shot regularly against the spinners, while Taylor generally drove down the ground for singles to long off and long on.
There was a moment or two of anxiety.
Dottin, on six, was dropped by the bowler Marsh when the powerful batter hit aerially down the ground.
In the same over, perhaps still upset because of the missed chance, Marsh fielded a ball played back to her and hurled it in the direction of Dottin, who took evasive action to deflect the ball with her bat. Both umpires had a quick chat with the West Indies batters and the England Captain Heather Knight to ensure the situation did not deteriorate.
Dottin was later dismissed via the lbw route by spinner Alex Hartley to open the floodgates as West Indies slumped from 82-2 to 90-5.
But Taylor continued to stamp her class at the other end. Taylor, who was bothered by a hamstring issue while making nine in the opening game, slashed pacer Katherine Brunt’s short delivery back of point for four to bring up her 50.
She hit six fours off 87 balls before being dismissed by the relentless Brunt.
As Taylor continued to run out of partners she eventually gave her hand away, attempting to clear the straight boundary to a delivery from Brunt, but could only offer a high catch to Marsh at long-on. At that stage the score was 127-7 and West Indies tail-enders had to scrap to bat out the allotment of 50 overs.
England’s slow left-arm orthodox bowler Alex Hartley took four wickets.
In reply, the English batters also found the going tough.
Lauren Winfield was sent back lbw to left-arm pacer Erva Giddings for two at 12-1.
As pressure mounted due to some tight overs, Winfield’s opening partner, Tammy Beaumont (19) was bowled by the off-spin of Taylor at 33-2.
Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, who got plenty turn and some bounce with her loopy off-spin, then bowled Georgia Elwiss for 16 at 56-3 inside the 24th over.
Though England kept the ticking over the scoreboard with one and twos, the lack of boundaries eventually caught up with them.
As the overs remaining dwindled and the run-rate crept upwards, the pressure continued to tell.
England Captain Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver both fell to the naggingly accurate wrist spinner Afy Fletcher for 26 and 27, respectively.
And Wyatt, who made an ODI career-best 44 in the previous match, was dismissed for seven also by Fletcher at 108-6.
The loss of those three left the door open for Dottin to apply the mopping up exercise at the lower end of the batting. Though entering relatively late in the innings, it worked out almost perfectly for skipper Taylor.
Dottin mixed slower balls with several searing full deliveries to good effect as the England batters appeared flummoxed. She finished with 4-19 off six overs and four balls, while Fletcher took 3-20.
The teams now turn their attention to three pivotal games at Sabina Park in Kingston, starting on Friday.

Nicole strengthens as it takes aim at Bermuda
Forecasters have predicted that Tropical Storm Nicole will intensify later on Tuesday and pass virtually right over Bermuda as a Category Two storm on Thursday morning.
A hurricane watch and tropical storm warning have been posted in this British Overseas Territory.
Three cruise ships have already been diverted from the island and American Airlines announced it is cancelling Wednesday’s incoming flights from New York and Miami as well as the return journeys on Thursday morning.
Service on one ferry route was cancelled on Tuesday as strong winds buffeted the island.
Hamilton docks will be closed on Wednesday.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said in an 11:00 am (local time) bulletin that Nicole was strengthening and expected to become a hurricane by Tuesday night.
The NHC said Nicole is likely to dump between three and five inches of rain on Bermuda through Thursday.
The storm, situated 350 miles south of Bermuda, was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour at 11:00 am and moving north-northwest at five miles per hour (mph).
The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) warned residents “ahead of Nicole’s approach to expect hazardous conditions including strong winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms, dangerous surf and rip currents, and very rough seas and swells building high to very high.
“Tropical-storm-force winds arrive by Wednesday evening with hurricane-force winds arriving late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.”
The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) has already swung into action, and National Security Minister Jeff Baron has urged residents to make sure their storm supplies are topped up.
Nicole, the 14th named storm of the Atlantic season, which formed as a tropical storm south of Bermuda last Tuesday, did a U-turn on Sunday night and headed towards Bermuda.
Nicole had meandered erratically while intensifying to a Category Two hurricane with 105 miles per hour winds on Friday.
It began to weaken as it drifted further south but has roared back to life.
Bermuda’s only brush with a storm this season came last month when Tropical Storm Karl dumped around four inches of rain on the island but it caused no serious damage.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK (HURRICANE SEASON):
Ford sales in China surged 24% in September
Sales of light vehicles in China by Ford and its joint venture partners rose 24% in September, driven by growing popularity of SUVs in the world's largest auto market.
Ford's operations in China are run through Changan Ford Automobile and Jiangling Motor. The automaker also imports a small number of vehicles from the U.S., most of which are Mustangs.
Changan Ford sales increased 24.5% in September to 84,335, up 24.5% from a year earlier. Jiangling sales rose 28% to 23,416.
"Ford has been building momentum, winning new customers with the most exciting lineup we have ever offered in China," said Peter Fleet, Ford Asia Pacific vice president of marketing, sales and service, in a statement.
Through the first nine months of 2016, Ford and its partners have sold 879,559 vehicles, up 11% from the year-earlier period.
Sales of the Lincoln luxury brand nearly tripled this year through September, to 20,996 from 7,219.

Canadian autoworkers reach tentative deal with Fiat Chrysler
Unifor reached a tentative agreement late Monday night with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles that includes a commitment to invest in the automaker's assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, and provides its workers with their first raises in 10 years.
The deal was reached after several days of intense bargaining and, if ratified by workers, includes a $325-million investment in Brampton for a new paint shop and $6.4 million to upgrade the automaker's casting plant in Ebitocoke, Ontario, in Canadian dollars. It also includes $12,000 in bonuses and lump sum payments to workers over the life of the agreement before taxes.
Unifor also reached an agreement to save jobs of workers who will be laid off at the Ebitocoke plant. Those workers will be displaced because the plant makes parts for the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart and both of those cars are being discontinued.
“That decision will lead, candidly, to the layoff of up to about 150, potentially 200 of our members,” Dias said. “So what we have found is a solution to make sure that our members will not be laid off and will have employment opportunities in the Brampton assembly plant.”
The contract represents the second win in two months for Unifor, which began negotiations this summer worried that three plants in Canada operated by the Detroit Three could close in the coming years. For FCA, the tentative deal averts a possible strike that would have shut down its Windsor Assembly Plant, where it builds the popular new Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
FCA, in a statement, confirmed that it reached an agreement with Unifor but declined to make any additional comment.
"We were really deeply concerned about the fact that the paint shop at Brampton … is over 30 years old," Unifor president Jerry Dias said at a news conference in Toronto. "Now, they are going to gut the existing paint shop and refurbish it."
Dias also said FCA would provide a new platform for the plant in Brampton if quality continues to improve but declined to clarify what that meant. FCA builds the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger at the plant on a platform that hasn't been overhauled in more than a decade.
The agreement will not be official until union members vote on the deal next week. After that, Unifor will turn its attention to Ford. The union has set a deadline of Oct. 31 to complete discussions with the Dearborn automaker.
Leaders of the Canadian union said negotiations with FCA went down to the wire and were completed only after overcoming a major hurdle. FCA, Dias said, was reluctant to provide the same level of wage increases that General Motors agreed to in a contract ratified last month by Unifor members, Dias said.
"This has been one very difficult set of negotiations," Dias said.
In the end, FCA agreed deal that provides the same wages and bonuses. That means FCA's 9,750 autoworkers in Canada will get a $6,000 signing bonus and $2,000 lump sum bonuses annually for the next three years in Canadian dollars. Workers also will get wage increases of 2% in the first and fourth years the contract.
The new contract also revises a 10-year progressive pay scale for newly hired workers who will now start at CA$20.92 per hour and will get a raise every year until they reach the top wage of CA$34.15 per hour.
Unifor, like the UAW in the U.S., historically strives to negotiate contracts with all three automakers that provide similar wages and benefits. The theory, called "pattern bargaining" is that the union wants the automakers to compete against each other based on design, quality, and engineering rather than based on labor rate advantages.
FCA objected to the GM pattern because its profits pale in comparison to General Motors and Ford and its profit margins are smaller.
"We reached the objective, which was a pattern," Dias said. "The difficulty was getting them to agree to the pattern."
Unifor began its contract talks with GM, FCA saying Canada's entire auto industry is at stake in this year's negotiations. Unifor is trying to secure investments at Canadian auto plants to prevent a further erosion of the automotive industry in Canada as plants have closed and the country has failed to attract new auto plants.
Dias got off to a strong start with GM when it won a CA$540 million investment commitment to upgrade the Oshawa plant and its St. Catharines, Ontario, plant.
Those upgrades will pave the way for GM to gain additional production volume for the Chevrolet Silverado at the Oshawa plant and build the Cadillac XTS as other cars and SUVs built at the plant are phased out. Most of the Silverado production will continue to come from GM's plant in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Now Dias is celebrating his second tentative agreement with an automaker in two months.
"It's my birthday today, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than a $325-million investment for Brampton," Dias said.

Lincoln nearly triples China sales
Ford Motor Co.'s luxury Lincoln brand nearly tripled its China sales in the third quarter to 8,546 vehicles, the company said today.
In the first three quarters of the year, Lincoln sales in China surged 191 percent to about 21,000, Ford said. Ford also said it was on track to have 65 Lincoln stores by the end of this year and 80 by the end of 2017.
Ford said it hopes its China sales will be boosted by a new version of its flagship sedan, the Lincoln Continental, to go on sale at Chinese dealerships in the fourth quarter.
Even with the surging sales, Ford's Lincoln lagged Detroit rival General Motors and its luxury Cadillac brand, which got a much earlier start. In September in China, GM sold about 12,500 Cadillacs, up 63 percent.
In 2016 through September, GM has sold about 77,000 Cadillac vehicles in China, up 35 percent, more than three times Lincoln's sales.
GM's total deliveries in China rose 16 percent to 343,773 vehicles in September, led by strong sales at Cadillac, Buick and Baojun. Last month, Cadillac sales soared 63 percent from a year earlier to 12,539 vehicles on demand for the XT5 crossover and the ATS-L and XTS sedans.
For the year to date, GM said its sales in China have risen 9 percent to 2.7 million vehicles.

Facebook Launches Business Version
Social media giant Facebook has launched a separate version of its network platform aimed at businesses, called Workplace.
Facebook hopes the new product will replace businesses' previous internal communications tools, such as intranet and mailbox. It's competing with other workplace products or services including LinkedIn, Slack, HipChat, Microsoft's Yammer and Salesforce's Chatter.
Workplace, previously called Facebook at Work, has a similar look and feel to standard Facebook, including a news feed to read, group chats, and an instant messaging to stay in contact with co-workers. Users can add and share comments, photos and videos about their work and can engage in video calls with co-workers.
In a change from Facebook, Workplace's background is gray, not blue, and users can access it without a Facebook account.
The service is free for nonprofits and educational institutions, but costs businesses between $1-3 per month per connected employee, depending on the size of the business.
Organizations have used the service for the past 18 months on an invite-only basis. Facebook says 1,000 companies are already using the product, including the Royal Bank of Scotland, the nonprofit group Oxfam, and soup maker Campbell's.
Workplace is based on an internal service that Facebook's own employees have been using for years. The goal is similar to Facebook -- to connect as many people as possible -- but this time in the workplace."A connected workplace is a more productive workplace," explains the official Workplace page.
Facebook says the top five countries now using Workplace are India, Norway, the United States, Britain and France.
