South African police announced on Monday that they are investigating the death of World Cup soccer player, Jayden Adams, after his body was found at a property in Cape Town over the weekend.
Adams, 25 years old, died just two weeks after helping South Africa advance to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history.
Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death.
Police confirmed Adams’ body was discovered at a property in a Cape Town neighborhood at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
His father, Juanito Adams, told South African television station eNCA on Sunday that the family is awaiting the results of an autopsy and has not yet made funeral arrangements. The death was sudden for the family and they are trying to cope.
Adams played in all three of South Africa’s group-stage matches during the team’s historic World Cup campaign. He did not feature in the team’s 1-0 defeat to Canada in the Round of 32 on June 28th.
Adams came through the youth development structures at Stellenbosch FC and joined Sundowns in January 2025.
He made his international debut against Mozambique in 2022 and won 13 caps, scoring two goals, both in qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
