The New York Liberty are once again WNBA Commissioner’s Cup champions after defeating the Las Vegas Aces in front of a sold-out home crowd Tuesday night.
The New York Liberty captured their second WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title with a 93-85 victory over the Las Vegas Aces at Barclays Center, becoming the first team in league history to win the in-season tournament twice. The Liberty appeared in control after taking a 51-37 lead into halftime, but the Aces rallied in the second half behind Jackie Young, who scored 31 points, including 25 after the break.
Las Vegas briefly took its first lead early in the fourth quarter before New York responded with a decisive 15-2 run to regain control.
The victory marks New York’s second Commissioner’s Cup title, having also defeated Las Vegas in the 2023 championship. The Liberty finished with a 42-30 rebounding advantage and converted 24 of 29 free throws in the win.
The Commissioner’s Cup championship does not count toward the regular-season standings. Both teams return to league play on Friday, with the Liberty hosting the Minnesota Lynx and the Aces welcoming the Chicago Sky.
