Jason Derulo’s 2016 is off to a good start. He has a new woman in his life, a new single on the way and a performance lined up for tonight’s People’s Choice Awards. In an interview with E! News ahead of the big show, Jason teases what to expect.
“I’m doing a mashup with ‘Get Ugly’ and ‘Want to Want Me,'” he says. “From a performance perspective, you can expect a lot of energy, tons of dancing. I’m really going to push the envelope dance wise. It’s definitely a lost art.”
All that dancing definitely helps Jason stay in peak physical condition. While most people make New Year’s fitness resolutions, Jason entered 2016 with his abs already intact. And with a new single called “Naked,” we can only expect to see more of that chiseled bod.
“It’s all about taking in calories for fuel and not pleasure. I like to enjoy myself but I think of food more as fuel than a party,” he says of his fitness routine. “…It’s all about a balance lifestyle but I do eat a high protein, very low-carb. Very rarely will I have a piece of bread. I also work out three times a day sometimes.”
But he still finds time for romance. He’s currently dating model — and rapper 50 Cent’s ex — Daphne Joy. The two rang in the new year together in Miami.
“I’m just enjoying life,” Jason says when asked about the relationship. “I don’t want to talk too much about it, but I’m definitely enjoying life right now.”
