The Ministry of Education, Labour, Employment and Customer Services is pleased to publish the complete list of recipients of the 2021 Scholarship awards to complete tertiary level studies. The Education Advisory Committee met during the month of July to review all international applications received on or before the application deadline of 14thMay 2021. The selection of scholarship recipients is solely the responsibility of the Education Advisory Committee.
The Educational Advisory Committee reviewed one hundred and eighty-one (181) applications for further study, regionally and internationally. Out of these applications, eight-six (86) were successful based on the identified priority areas, grade point averages and other policy related criteria. The awards comprise of 10 full scholarships, 15 partial scholarships and 61 grant awards. The Ministry of Education is committed to providing scholarships for as many of the citizens of the Turks and Caicos Islands as possible in disciplines based on our country’s labour and development needs.
The Honourable Rachael Taylor, Ministry of Education, Labour, Employment and Customer Services states: “It is with great pleasure that I extend congratulations to the International Scholarship Awardees. I applaud you for attaining the GPA requirement and encourage you to work even harder in an effort to achieve your outlined goals. Our country needs your skills in an effort to provide quality service within our country. Returning to your country, the Turks and Caicos Islands upon the completion of your studies is paramount for the growth and development of our country, as we ensure that our people are given the first opportunity to capture the jobs.
I also take this opportunity to congratulate the students who were not awarded a scholarship, but provided in some cases, excellent grades which proves that our students are great achievers.
To the students who did not receive the required GPA of 2.5, I encourage you to take up additional courses in an effort to improve your overall GPA that will allow you to qualify for an International Scholarship.
To encourage students to study at our Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC), we are in the process of reviewing the courses. As Minister with responsibilities for Education, my team and I will work towards a complete review of the Scholarship Policy that will capture the current required skills.
