Friday, 03 September 2021- The Department of Environment & Coastal Resources would like to notify the public that a shark has been observed in the popular snorkel location of Coral Gardens, Grace Bay Providenciales.
We respectfully request that all swimmers, snorkelers, resorts and vendors in the area refrain from swimming in the open water from the Bight Park to the Sibonne Resort until the Department has issued an ‘all clear’ and the area is confirmed safe for recreation.
The Turks and Caicos Islands has healthy coral reefs and due to that we are always living close to marine animals. We should be aware of that we are entering their habitat when we enjoy the ocean, and that we are to approach with caution and respect.
We remind the public that Coral Gardens is situated in the Princess Alexandria National Park, a marine protected area in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
