InterHealth Canada, the management organization of Turks and Caicos Islands Hospitals announced on Monday July 20th 2026, that they have had no option but to terminate their contract to provide healthcare services in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). Saying that the government has failed to meet its contractual payment obligations.
InterHealth Canada said, to ensure continuity of care for patients, they will continue providing healthcare services throughout the contractual handover period while responsibility for the hospitals is transferred to TCIG.
InterHealth Canada and its subsidiaries have proudly provided internationally accredited diamond status healthcare services to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands and their visitors since the hospital was opened in 2010.
In response, the Turks and Caicos Islands Government disputed InterHealth Canada’s claims and sought to reassure the public that healthcare services remain unaffected.
In a statement issued later Monday, the Government said it is urgently reviewing InterHealth Canada’s purported termination of the contract and emphasized that there has been no interruption to healthcare services.
The Government advised hospital staff, patients, residents and visitors to continue attending appointments and seeking treatment as normal, adding that ensuring the continued delivery of safe, stable and effective healthcare services remains its highest priority.
The Government also welcomed InterHealth Canada’s commitment to continue providing services during the transition period but rejected the company’s allegations regarding non-payment.
According to the Government, claims that it failed to meet its payment obligations are “misleading and inaccurate.” Officials said all clinical costs due under the contract have been paid and will continue to be paid for ongoing services.
The Government stated that any payments withheld relate to contractual performance issues involving InterHealth Canada’s estates services, describing those matters as private contractual issues that it would not comment on further at this stage.
