Guyana has rejected the results of an internal investigation by a Russian bauxite company that found that a general manager did not threaten workers at one of its plants last month.
Labour minister Manzoor Nadir says Guyana’s government has launched its own probe to determine whether the general manager used a spade to threaten employees sitting in a company bus.
Nadir said Wednesday that workers told union leaders Rusal’s investigating team never met with them.
The government also is probing whether the company was justified in dismissing dozens of workers more than a year ago after they protested working conditions.
Rusal officials could not be reached for comment.
Rusal is the world’s largest producer of alumina and aluminum.
