Manufacturing
Manufacturing is an untapped frontier of enterprise in the TCI. An evolution has begun in recent times with a gradual shift towards this type of industry fed by high demand through the visiting tourists and the close proximity to major markets. The market for products made locally has grown in tandem with the vast economic and tourism development that has occurred in the islands. The tourism sector, which brings over 1 million visitors a year, provides a regular demand for local goods, from food and drink to souvenirs, from construction materials to items of furniture and interior design. The favorable tax laws in TCI provide significant benefits to TCI based light manufacturing. TCI Government is beginning to explore the introduction of green technologies to the islands and wishes to encourage private sector developers to pursue manufacturing projects in this field.
Finance & Banking
The TCI offer a well-defined regulatory framework within which to operate a comprehensive range of financial activities including banking, insurance, trusts, mutual funds, investment dealing companies and partnerships to the international business community. TCI is home to reputable, international financial services brands such as Scotiabank, CIBC and Royal Bank of Canada along with many other financial service providers.
The insurance market is an important sector and a growth area in the TCI financial services industry. The TCI has developed a niche market for captive insurance companies known as “credit life” or “producer owned reinsurance companies” (PORCS). The TCI insurance legislation provides for these low cost reinsurance companies to be licensed and used by direct writers that are regulated by the regulatory authorities in the United States.
Tourism
The proximity of the TCI to the United States and Canada, paired with the privacy and anonymity that people are able to enjoy here, have enabled the islands to grow as an oasis for those desiring to have a second/third home. Inspired by the beauty of the country, the friendliness of its people and the ease of accessibility, TCI have seen significant development of condo-resorts, hotels and private homes on a very high quality level. Recent increases in occupancy have already led to confirmed investments in the range of 500- 750m USD over the next few years from international developers. Expansion projects are also under way for on-island businesses such as Amanyara and Beaches Resort Villages and Spa. This will be accompanied by growing secondary markets such as retail, food and beverage and other services industries.

Galmo Williams (2009)
Hon. Galmo W. Williams, MP Premier and Minister of Development & District Administration. Born and raised in the quaint community of Bottle Creek, North Caicos, Galmo (also known as "Gilley") Williams is truly a grassroots, community spirited man. He received his formal education at the Bottle Creek

Primary School (now Adelaide Oemler Primary) and then went on to pursue his secondary education at the Bottle Creek High School (now Raymond Gardiner High) under the tutorship of such well known educators as Hope Hamilton and Raymond Gardiner. In a quest to further his education he attended the Miami Lakes Technical Institute where he obtained diplomas in Hospitality and Culinary Management. Over the years he continued to pursue numerous human resource development and culinary training in Buffalo, New York.
Entrepreneurship
Galmo Williams currently serves as CEO and President of Gilley's Enterprises Ltd., a group of companies he started in 1984. A man of purpose

and vision was never about self, in fact he has demonstrated that through hard work and dedication nothing is impossible to achieve. Gilley, a Chef by profession, first entrepreneurship was the popular restaurant "Gilley's Cafe" at the Providenciales International Airport. Today, there are two restaurants total in the enterprise. With his involvement in the daily running of the restaurants, he set sights on the start of a retail/wholesale wine and spirits company. The company would now be known as Discount Liquors and Wine Cellar. Having the first restaurant, located at the Providenciales International Airport, Gilley decided to enter into the duty free business. Out of this decision, emerged a new successful business venture known as Turquoise Duty Free, an upscale shop at the Providenciales International Airport selling the finest collection of wines, Champagnes and Spirits.
Family Life
A devoted husband, father and son, Gilley finds the pleasure and company of his family extremely important. He is married to Althea Been and together they have four children and three grandchildren. Gilley is also an avid sportsman. Having a love for the game of golf, he devotes time to his game and has won numerous tournaments at home in the Turks and Caicos as well as in the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and North Carolina, USA.
Political Career
As a teenager Gilley was always intrigued by politics but never dreamed he would end up being a politician. He ran for the 13th Electoral District (Cheshire Hall) during the General Elections of 2003 and won by an overwhelming margin, unseating the incumbent. After initially declining a ministerial post after a convincing win in 2003, Galmo "Gilley" Williams was called upon to serve as Minister of Natural Resources. A post he would hold until a cabinet shuffle occurred and he was made responsible for Home Affairs, a challenge he did not decline.
After the Boundaries Commission released its report in 2007, he sought to represent the constituency of Long Bay Hills. Subsequently, the people of the 15th Electoral District, Long Bay Hills to represent them, returned him to the House of Assembly. Again he was asked to serve as Minister for Home Affairs including Immigration and Disaster Management, a position that he thrived in with fairness and equality.
Gilley considers himself being very fortunate to have served as the second Premier of the TCI. Hon. Williams is still the Leader of the Progressive National Party.
Community Work
Galmo Williams is a very passionate and a firm believer in education and as a result is a founding member and has served on the Board of Governors of the British West Indies Collegiate, an institution providing quality education in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Because of his belief in the fight against HIV/AIDS, he is a founding member and Patron of Turks & Caicos Aids Awareness Foundation (TCAAF). This foundation was officially launched in December 2003. Since its inception, the TCAAF under the guidance of Gilley, was instrumental in the building of the Edward E. Gartland Youth Center. Gilley is an active Rotarian and supports numerous other social clubs. Whenever there is a need for a helping hand in the community, Gilley always offers any assistance he can on behalf of himself and his family.
Galmo "Gilley" Williams is a renaissance man. A spiritual man who when called up by his people to act, acted with sincerity and humbleness. Today, he serves as the Turks and Caicos Islands second Premier and Leader of the Progressive National Party. When asked what one of his main objectives is during his time in office, he replies: "To foster unity amongst all Turks and Caicos Islanders, from every background, with every different socio-economic status, from different political allegiances, to build one Turks and Caicos that we can all be proud of and live in."

National Dress
The female white cotton dress reflects our humble past as farmers & plantation works. The male shirt and pants reflect our historic past as salt rakers and fisherman. The straw hats were made from the silver palm top leaf that grow all over the Caicos Islands and was used by everyone as protection from the heat of the sun. To identify a person»s island home land, look to the colour of the woman scarf and waist sash and to the man»s band on his hat. This solid colour corresponds to one of the islands where they were born but anyone can choose to wear any colour to display their national pride and love for the Turks and Caicos. The order of the colours and islands move from east to west, sunrise to sunset. The National Dress/costume was unveiled during the Queens Jubilee 2002 and was designed by the director of Culture, Mr. David Bowen based on an idea put forward boy Cultural Information Officer, Ms. Valerie Jennings. Colours and meaning of the national dress are as follows:
- Yellow - God's glory as the sun shining down on all 40 Islands and Cays.
- Red - Grand Turk the Capital. The colour represents the Turks Head Cactus our National plant and name sake.
- White - Salt Cay. The colour white represents salt and the salt industry of the Turks islands.
- Orange - South Caicos & East Caicos. The colour orange represents the Caicos Lobster and our fishing industry.
- Tan - Middle Caicos. The colour Tan represents farming and straw Craftwork.
- Green - North Caicos & parrot Cay. The color green represents the vegetation, fertile lands and plantation.
- Turquoise - Providenciales & West Caicos. Turquoise represents our beautiful ocean and our newest industry tourism.
- Pink - The remaining islands & cays. Pink represents the conch shell and flamingos.
National Anthem: "God Save The King"
The words of the National Anthem are as follows:
God save our gracious King!
Long live our noble King!
God save the King!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the King.
Thy choicest gifts in store
On him be pleased to pour,
Long may he reign.
May he defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the King.
National Song: "This Land Of Ours"
Oh we salute this land of ours
Our Country we Declare
This Promise Land, with it's beauties grand
Through small it is our own.
CHO: Turks and Caicos, Turks and Caicos
Our Country Firm and Free
Our Allegiance, Turks and Caicos,
We pledge and we affirm.
Our people forged and blend
with multiplicity
Of race and kind and creed and tongue
United by our goals
From the East, West, North and South
Our banks and oceans meet
Surrounding sands and hills of glee
Our pristine beauties see
CHO: Turks and Caicos, Turks and Caicos
Our Country Firm and Free
Our Allegiance, Turks and Caicos,
We pledge and we affirm.
We stand with courage brave
To maintain this land of ours
With islands scattered here and there
With trust in God we stand.
CHO: Turks and Caicos, Turks and Caicos
Our Country Firm and Free
Our Allegiance, Turks and Caicos,
We pledge and we affirm.
