International News 12th July, 2018

John Schnatter, the founder and public face of Papa John's pizza, resigned as the company's chairman hours after he apologized for using the N-word on a conference call in May.

Schnatter had apologized earlier in the day after Forbes reported that he used the racial slur while participating in a role-playing exercise designed to prevent public relations crises.

According to the account in Forbes, Schnatter was on a call with Laundry Service, a marketing agency, and was asked how he planned to manage future public relations flare-ups.

Schnatter founded Papa John's in 1984. He is the public face of the company and its largest shareholder, controlling 29%, and appears in its ads, including one that rolled out as recently as April.

Papa John's (PZZA) said in a statement late Wednesday it would appoint a new chairman "in the coming weeks."

Donald Trump 'fine' with protests as he lands in UK

International News 12th July, 2018

US President Donald Trump has arrived in the UK, having said he is "fine" about any protests during his visit.

He is due to meet Theresa May, who is seeking a post-Brexit trade deal - days after he said the UK was in "turmoil". Extra security is in place to police a number of protests but Mr Trump said he thought Britons "like me a lot". Speaking at the Nato summit in Brussels before he arrived, Mr. Trump said the UK was a "pretty hot spot right now".

Mr Trump, who will also spend time with the Queen during his two-day working visit, added: "I think they like me a lot in the UK; I think they agree with me on immigration... "You see what's going on throughout the world with immigration... I think that's why Brexit happened." Mr. Trump has recently been under fire for his own immigration policy, which resulted in the separation of immigrant families.

Mrs. May said the UK visit would be an opportunity to boost trade links and strengthen co-operation on security. But she also warned Mr. Trump not to ignore the "malign behaviour" of Russia when he meets Vladimir Putin in Helsinki next week. Mr. Trump had joked earlier this week that his meeting with the Russian leader "may be the easiest" part of his European trip.

Along with trade and security links, Downing Street said the other key areas to be discussed between the two leaders included Brexit and the Middle East.

Ahead of Mr. Trump's visit, Mrs. May said that when the UK leaves the European Union "there will be no alliance more important in the years ahead".

Woman Caught trying to Smuggle Python onto Flight to Barbados

Florida, United States, Wednesday July 11, 2018-  A woman who was headed to Barbados on Sunday was not only prevented from getting on her flight, but was fined after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents at Miami International Airport Discovered she had a snake hidden in a computer  hard drive in her checked bag.

The traveler was not named.

“The snake, that didn’t get on a plane thanks to our officers’ diligent screening, had been artfully concealed inside the electronics of a hard drive and placed in a checked bag headed for a flight to Barbados,” TSA spokesperson Sari Ko-shetz said.

It was while the passenger’s bag was being screened that a TSA saw an “organic mass”. A TSA bomb expert who was called into the baggage screening room to investigate the hard drive discovered a small, live Ball Python in nylon stocking.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Services subsequently took away the reptile and fined the passenger.

“While this mass inside the electronic device was obviously not an imminent terrorist threat to the traveling public, the interception did prevent a possible wildlife threat on an aircraft. Animals of many species have been known to escape and chew through wires with fatal results,” Ko-shetz said.

CDB to construct new office building in Barbados

July 11th, 2018, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has announced that it will construct a new office building in Barbados, redeveloping the current site of its headquarters at Wildey, St. Michael.

The project, approved by the Bank’s Board of Directors in December 2017, will provide adequate accommodations for the CDB’s current and projected staff complement, and integrate environmental sustainability considerations.

“With more than 200 employees and a building that is almost four decades old, it has become essential to construct new office accommodations that will effectively and efficiently support the Bank’s business and staff requirements,” said Philip Brown, Director, Human Resources and Administration, CDB.

The new office Building will efficiently use energy, water and other resources; focus on protecting staff health and improving employee productivity; prioritize the reduction of waste, pollution and environmental degradation. Building on the existing photovoltaic installation already in operation on CDB’s campus, the new building will provide opportunities to further integrate this renewable energy feature.

In addition, CDB will pursue a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certification for the new building, which could be among the first in the Banks’s borrowing member countries to achieve globally recognized green rating.

Funding of the project, scheduled for completion in 2020, totals USD36 million (mn).

In 1970, CDB and the Government of Barbados signed an agreement establishing Barbados as the Bank’s Headquarters Seat. Since then, CDB has provided more than USD 480 mn in funding to support economic and social development in Barbados.
