Edwin Astwood

Edwin Andre Astwood better known as Eddie is a native of Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands. He was born on August 24, 1973. Eddie quickly demonstrated his natural leadership qualities graduating from the H.J. Robinson high school as head boy with a First class honors diploma, and finishing with the most CXC passes for that year. He then obtained

a Diploma in Medical Technology from the College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology Jamaica and a one year internship (Certification), at the University of the West Indies Hospital and the Kingston Public Hospital, Jamaica. After three years of employment at the Grand Turk Hospital, he rose through the ranks of the laboratory unit, and was appointed to the position of Chief Medical Technologist. He spare headed the projects which upgraded and improved the Government’s Medical Laboratory and Imaging Services, which included representing the Ministry of Health in numerous health conferences and seminars, both regionally and internationally.

In 1998 he returned to school, attending the University of Technology, Jamaica, where he obtained a B Sc. Upon returning home, he was promoted to the new position of Laboratory Manager for the Ministry of Health.
In 2005 Edwin acquired a Master of Business Administration degree at Nova Southeastern University, USA. In 2007 he obtained the post of Health Services Manager for the Ministry of Health and Human Services. After the closure of the government’s hospitals, and upon him being told that he was not qualified for any position with Inter-health Canada, Edwin was short listed, interviewed, and obtained the post of Under Secretary to the Governor’s Office/Secretary to the Judicial Services Commission. His extensive duties afforded him a holistic view of the functioning and operations of all Government Ministries, and the challenges in coordinating the activities of the Various Government Departments in achieving our national goals and objectives.
