Yasmin Hadeed and Richard Ashraph Ramsaran can take a bow. The duo had the honour of combing through the enormous and no doubt mesmerizing body of work laid down by legendary masman Peter Minshall and came up with select pieces for the wondrous exhibition titled Minshall Miscellany.
Now taking place at Y Art Gallery in Woodbrook, the exhibition was formally opened on October 21. The dynamic pair had a little over three weeks to sequence the show and produce a catalogue, too, and settled on a total of 45 pieces.
And they had the unenviable task of choosing one precious piece over another from the Callaloo Company warehouse. But judging from the charmed responses of viewers, Hadeed and Ramsaran settled on pieces that left them spellbound.
Minshall Miscellany traces, though loosely, the career of the artist whose versatile design earned him an Emmy Award. From commissioned paintings recapturing the Carnival band Tantana to sophisticated designs from yesteryears’ Jaycees Carnival Queen contestants, guests welcomed the decision to open this vault and let them in.
