More than 15 students from the Clement Howell High School Media Club, both male and female students, got a firsthand look into the exciting world of broadcasting, journalism and television production during an educational tour of RTC Studios in Providenciales.

The visit provided the aspiring young media professionals with an opportunity to step outside the classroom and learn directly from industry professionals about the skills, creativity and dedication required to succeed in the world of media.

From operating cameras and understanding live television production to developing strong writing and reporting skills, the students were introduced to several important aspects of the broadcasting industry.

One of the highlights of the visit was an interactive learning session with Benson Williams, who introduced the students to the technical side of television broadcasting.

Williams shared valuable insights into videography, camera operations and the behind-the-scenes coordination required to produce professional video content.

Students learned about the importance of camera positioning, capturing quality footage and the teamwork involved in bringing a live production to viewers.

The students also explored the editorial side of the media industry during a session with yours truly, where I shared knowledge of journalism, storytelling and news writing.

Students were imtroduced to the fundamentals of developing a compelling news story, emphasizing the importance of accuracy, research, clear communication and responsible reporting.

The session highlighted how journalists transform information into stories that educate, inform and engage the public.

Students were also exposed to the importance of asking meaningful questions, identifying newsworthy topics and presenting information in a way that captures an audience’s attention.

I had the female students write introductions to stories and headlines which they were also able to record, giving them hands on experience as well.
Take a listen.

Adding to the significance of the visit, the students received words of motivation from the Minister of Innovation Hon. E. Jay Saunders.

The minister’s engagement provided an opportunity to encourage the young participants to embrace creativity, pursue their ambitions and recognize the growing opportunities within media, technology and innovation.

The interaction reinforced the importance of young people developing their talents, building confidence and preparing themselves for careers in an increasingly digital world.

For the Clement Howell High School Media Club, the opportunity to receive encouragement from a government leader added another memorable element to an already educational experience.

The RTC Studios tour served as more than just a field trip. It was an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experience while exposing students to potential career paths in broadcasting and digital media.

For the more than 15 Clement Howell High School Media Club students who toured RTC Studios, the experience offered a valuable lesson: behind every successful broadcast is a team of creative minds, skilled professionals and powerful storytellers working together to bring stories to life.
