The Turks and Caicos Islands recently recorded its first murder for the year 2026.

A fatal shooting in Five Cays on Friday, June 12, 2026, marked the first homicide in the country for the year.

According to a police press release, officers were dispatched to an area behind Liz Bakery in Five Cays shortly after 8 p.m. after the Police Control Room received reports of loud explosions being heard in the neighbourhood.

Responding officers from various units arrived at the scene and discovered an unresponsive male suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

A medical doctor later examined the victim and officially pronounced him dead at 10 p.m.

Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey at a recent press conference gave an update and insight into this fatality.

The Turks and Caicos Islands was murder free since November 2025.
