President Joe Biden visited Puerto Rico on Monday, surveying the damage caused there by Hurricane Fiona.
The president said the storm dealt a serious blow to the rebuilding that was already done or underway after Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc five years ago.
“Roads and bridges built after Maria have been washed away again,” he said. “Families who spent their savings to build new homes losing their homes have seen them flooded away.”
Biden also announced more than $60 million in aid to help Puerto Rico prepare for future storms.
The total death toll from Hurricane Ian in the U.S. is 103 across two states — 99 and four in Florida and North Carolina, respectively.
The majority of the deaths come from the two hardest southwestern Florida counties of Lee, with 54, and Charlotte, with 24.
The president is also set to visit Florida on Wednesday to view the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
