Three men, adrifted at sea since Wednesday 17th February 2016, have been rescued by Marine Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.

It was reported that at 9 am the same day that the three (3) men went fishing on a blue 21ft vessel with a 150 horse power engine. Marine officers immediately launched a search and rescue operation with Sea Defender.

On Thursday 18th February 2016 the vessel was found at position 21degree 33.149N and 072 degree 14.984 W at French Cay with the three on board with no injuries reported.

According to Sergeant Croy Lightbourne, “We were heading to Sand Split when we noticed a bushfire coming from French Cay, which causes us to head to that area.  Dive boats frequently anchor to that Cay but at the time of the fire, the boats were far away. That was unusual, so we went there instead and found the men.”

The three men informed officers that they encounter engine problems at West Sand Split about two (2) miles south-east of French Cay. However, they swim to French Cay where they stayed overnight and awaited help.

They were towed into Bay Cay in the area of Five Cays, Providenciales.
